WordPress SEO Plugins: Yoast vs AIOSEO vs Rank Math [2026]

When you're picking an SEO plugin for a WordPress site, three names come up most often: Yoast SEO, All in One SEO (AIOSEO), and Rank Math. In 2026, all three have a free version. The real differences are in how the paid plans bill, how many sites a license covers, and the AI-related features.

The catch: the three official sites write their prices in completely different ways. Some show a monthly price, some a yearly price, some a first-year discount, and the currencies differ too. Put the numbers side by side as-is, and it's easy to compare them wrong.

This article only covers facts you can find on the three official sites. No scores, no rankings, and prices are written in the currency and billing terms the official sites use. We're not a plugin vendor, and the scenario recommendations at the end are clearly marked as our own.

If you're still deciding whether your site should run on WordPress, start with our CMS selection guide.

Key takeaway: All three WordPress SEO plugins have a free version. Their paid plans bill differently: Yoast Premium is a monthly price paid annually, AIOSEO is a yearly price with a first-year discount, and Rank Math is a monthly price billed annually. AIOSEO's pricing page footnote states "all renewals are at full price" (AIOSEO pricing page, accessed 2026-10-20). Before comparing prices, check the renewal price and how many sites a license covers.

How Do the Three Big WordPress SEO Plugins Differ? One Summary Table

Yoast SEO, All in One SEO, and Rank Math all have a free version, while their paid plans each use a different currency and billing method. Take AIOSEO: its pricing page footnote states that the first year is an introductory price, and "all renewals are at full price" (AIOSEO pricing page, accessed 2026-10-20).

Each cell in the table below contains only what the official sites say, and all prices are as shown on the official pages on 2026-10-20:

Item Yoast SEO All in One SEO (AIOSEO) Rank Math
Free version Yes, "Download FREE" in the site menu Yes, the Lite version can be downloaded from WordPress.org Yes, "DOWNLOAD FOR FREE" on the site
Self-reported user count "Trusted on 13 million sites" "Trusted by 3,000,000+ smart website owners" "4 Million+ Happy Users"
Entry paid plan and price Premium: US$9.90/month, billed annually at US$118.80, excl. tax Basic: $49.50/year (the first-year introductory price shown on 2026-10-20, normally $99.00; the page uses $) PRO: €7.99/month, Billed annually, excl. tax
Renewal price Go by the checkout page on the official site Renews at full price (official FAQ: Basic renews at $99/year) Renews at €8.99 per month + taxes
Sites on the entry plan One subscription per site or domain Use on 1 site Unlimited personal websites
Refund period Go by the latest official information 14 days 30 days
Content analysis name Three analyses: SEO, readability, inclusive language TruSEO Comprehensive SEO Score
llms.txt Has a settings location (Settings > AI Features) Has an LLMs.txt Generator Has an LLMS Txt module (enabled in the Dashboard)
AI agents / MCP Yoast SEO Abilities; the integration page states it's free Go by the latest official information The site menu has an MCP Tools item; see the official site for features
Local SEO The Premium plan includes the Local SEO plugin From the Plus plan up Has a Local SEO module; some settings, such as multiple locations, are labeled PRO

All three user counts are self-reported, not third-party statistics, and they may not be counted the same way.

For the cells that say to go by the latest official information, check that plugin's official site or help center directly. Plugins update fast, and which plan a feature belongs to can change along with them.

On pricing: the three use different currencies and different billing bases (monthly paid annually, yearly, first-year discount), so we deliberately don't convert to New Taiwan dollars or rank them from high to low. If you want to compare, compare on the same terms: how many sites you'll use it on, and how much you pay from the second year on.

For how to choose SEO tools beyond plugins (keywords, rank tracking, site audits), see our SEO tools comparison.

Showing that the three plugins take different routes but share the goal of getting a website found in search Caption: The three plugins take different routes, but the goal is the same: helping search engines find and understand your website.

Yoast SEO: What the Free Version and Premium Cover

The free version of Yoast SEO already has three content analyses with traffic-light feedback. As shown on Yoast's site on 2026-10-20, Premium is US$9.90 per month, billed annually at US$118.80, excluding tax (Yoast SEO Premium pricing page, accessed 2026-10-20). The pricing page displays prices with $, and the first option in the currency menu at the bottom of the page is USD.

Highlights of the free version:

  • Three analyses: SEO analysis, readability analysis, and inclusive language analysis, with green, orange, and red traffic-light feedback
  • llms.txt: the beginner's guide gives the settings location as Yoast SEO > Settings > AI Features
  • AI agents: Yoast SEO Abilities lets AI tools read and change a single post's SEO settings. The integration page states "Included in Yoast SEO, Yoast SEO Premium, Yoast WooCommerce SEO and Yoast SEO AI+", and read access, core field updates, revert, and bulk operations come at no extra cost

What Premium covers:

  • Licensing: one subscription covers one site or domain; you can buy several, with bulk discounts; if you manage 100 or more client sites, there's dedicated agency licensing
  • Included in the plan: three plugins (Local SEO, Video SEO, News SEO); 1 seat for the Google Docs add-on (extra seats are US$5 per seat per month, excl. tax); Yoast SEO Academy; 24/7 support
  • Features: redirect management (with bulk CSV), up to 5 keyphrases, AI bulk drafting of titles and descriptions (saved only after review), Content Planner, internal linking suggestions and the orphaned content workout, Schema aggregation, Bot blocker
  • Staging: you can add both your live site and staging site in MyYoast and transfer the subscription to the staging site

The sidebar help page also labels three items as Premium: Related keyphrase, Internal linking suggestions, and Insights. AI Generate, AI Optimize, and AI Summarize belong to Premium or Yoast SEO AI+; AI Brand Insights belongs to the Yoast SEO AI+ package.

On supported languages, the pricing page FAQ says "The analysis works in more than 20 languages." The source code is public on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license.

Yoast's most talked-about new feature in 2026 is Abilities, which lets AI agents change SEO settings. The version differences and undo limits are in our complete explainer on Yoast SEO Abilities. How to operate each Yoast setting is in our Yoast SEO guide.

Yoast SEO vs All in One SEO (AIOSEO): What's the Difference?

Comparing Yoast SEO vs AIOSEO, the biggest differences are licensing and billing: one Yoast Premium subscription covers one site, while AIOSEO covers 1, 3, 10, or 100 sites depending on the plan, and its prices are yearly prices with a first-year discount (AIOSEO pricing page, accessed 2026-10-20).

AIOSEO's four plans, as shown on its site on 2026-10-20, are below. The page uses $ and doesn't state the currency separately:

Plan List price (normally) Price shown on the day we checked Sites AI Credits
Basic $99.00 $49.50/year 1 10,000
Plus $199.00 $99.50/year 3 25,000
Pro $399.00 $199.50/year 10 50,000
Elite $599.00 $299.50/year 100 200,000

First-Year Prices vs Renewal Prices: The Easiest Place to Misread a Comparison

At the top of AIOSEO's pricing page, on the day we checked, it said "Get 50% off your first year". That's promotional copy, not the standing price.

The prices shown in the table on the day we checked are the first-year prices. The footnote reads: "Special introductory pricing, all renewals are at full price." The pricing FAQ is just as clear: "Basic renews at $99/year", and every plan follows this pattern, renewing at roughly double the first-year price.

So comparing AIOSEO's first-year price against other plugins' standing prices gives you the wrong answer. The fairer approach is to look at how much you pay each year from the second year on.

The three put their prices on three different bases: Yoast is a monthly price paid annually, AIOSEO is a yearly price with a first-year discount, and Rank Math is a monthly price billed annually, with renewal priced separately. If you only look at the biggest number on each pricing card, the comparison doesn't mean anything.

How the Plans Differ

AIOSEO's pricing FAQ sums up the plan differences in one sentence:

"Local SEO and Author SEO start on Plus, Internal Link Assistant and deeper redirect tools start on Pro, and Search Statistics with keyword rank tracking are Elite-only."

A few more details:

  • AI Credits: every plan includes AI Credits, but the footnote states "The AI Writing Assistant requires a paid SEOBoost subscription." The AI writing assistant needs a separate SEOBoost subscription
  • Refunds: if it isn't a good fit within 14 days, you can request a full refund
  • Requirements: the pricing FAQ states you need a self-hosted WordPress site ("you must have a self-hosted WordPress site"), and that it has been translated into "over 54 languages"
  • Free version vs Pro: the homepage FAQ says Pro unlocks the Redirection Manager, advanced schema, Link Assistant, and the Local SEO module
  • Recent update: AIOSEO 5.0.1 (2026-08-26) extended TruSEO Analysis to taxonomy pages such as categories and tags, labeled "Available on all AIOSEO Pro plans"

Feature names listed on AIOSEO's homepage include TruSEO, Search Statistics, Redirection Manager, Schema Generator, Smart XML Sitemaps, Link Assistant, AI Assistant, AI Content Generator, AI Image Generator, LLMs.txt Generator, Local Business SEO, WooCommerce SEO, and Author SEO; the footer also lists IndexNow, Robots.txt Editor, Broken Link Checker, and SEO Manager Role.

Yoast vs AIOSEO: The Facts Side by Side

Item Yoast SEO Premium AIOSEO
License unit One subscription per site or domain 1/3/10/100 sites depending on the plan
How the price is written Monthly price, paid annually in one payment, excl. tax, US dollars Yearly price, first-year discount, page uses $
Renewal Go by the checkout page on the official site Renews at full price, roughly double the first-year price
Local SEO The Premium plan includes the Local SEO plugin From the Plus plan up
AI agents Yoast SEO Abilities, free Go by the latest official information
Refund period Go by the latest official information 14 days

So which one is better? When AIOSEO's homepage FAQ answers how it differs from Yoast and Rank Math, its first sentence is "It depends on your priorities." If even the vendor answers that way, we won't make the call for you either.

Rank Math: Plans and AI Features

Rank Math's paid plans show a monthly price, billed annually, excluding tax, and renewal prices are higher than first-year prices: as shown on its site on 2026-10-20, PRO is €7.99 per month, with renewal at "Renews at €8.99 per month + taxes" (Rank Math pricing page, accessed 2026-10-20).

The three plans, as shown on its site on 2026-10-20:

Plan Price shown on the day we checked Previous list price (Previously) Renewal Sites Tracked keywords Rank Math AI trial

Two things to read carefully:

  1. Monthly price, billed annually: the card shows a monthly price but says "Billed annually", which means you pay for a year at once
  2. Personal websites vs client websites: PRO says Unlimited personal websites (no limit on your own sites); Business and Agency say they support 100 and 500 client websites

Features listed on all three plan cards: Powerful Schema Generator, AI Link Genius, Broken Link Checker, Automated Keyword Linking, Advanced Keyword Rank Tracker, Comprehensive SEO Score, Unlimited Keyword Optimization, and Automated SEO Sitemaps. For support, PRO says "24/7 Support", and Business and Agency say "24/7 Priority Support". Refunds come with a "30 day money-back guarantee".

Rank Math's homepage positioning is clear: it talks about getting your content "showing up in Google, ChatGPT, and AI Mode alike", and about tracking how content performs in both classic search results and AI-generated answers. Installation also comes with a step-by-step setup wizard.

The site menu also lists several AI-related items: Rank Math AI, Content AI, AI Link Genius, AI Visibility, and MCP Tools, and Rank Math AI has its own pricing page. For details and costs of each feature, go by Rank Math's official site.

Among the WordPress client sites we've taken over, some use Rank Math. So when you take over or audit a site, we recommend first checking which plugin it uses, then looking for settings in that plugin's dashboard. Don't assume every site looks the same.

How to Choose a WordPress SEO Plugin: Three Site Scenarios

All three WordPress SEO plugins have a free version, so starting free and upgrading when needed is the lowest-cost starting point. This section is our recommendation, and each point traces back to facts on the official sites. For example, one Yoast Premium subscription covers only one site or domain (Yoast SEO Premium pricing page, accessed 2026-10-20), which you need to factor in when running several sites.

A Single Blog or Brand Website

All three free versions handle the basic SEO settings. Our recommendation is to start with the free version.

Look at paid plans once you actually need redirect management or want one post to cover several keywords. Yoast puts redirect management and up to 5 keyphrases in Premium; AIOSEO's homepage FAQ says the Redirection Manager is unlocked only in Pro.

Running Multiple Sites, or an Agency

At this point, what you compare isn't the first-year price but two things: how many sites the license covers, and the renewal price.

  • Yoast: one subscription per site; for several sites, buy several, with bulk discounts; agency licensing for 100 or more client sites
  • AIOSEO: Basic, Plus, Pro, and Elite cover 1, 3, 10, and 100 sites respectively, and renew at full price
  • Rank Math: PRO covers unlimited personal websites; when managing sites for clients, Business and Agency list 100 and 500 client websites, and renewal prices are higher than first-year prices

First count how many sites you'll manage and whether they're yours or your clients', then match that against each plugin's plan terms.

Local Businesses

If you have a physical store, look at which plan Local SEO is in. Yoast Premium includes the Local SEO plugin; AIOSEO has it from the Plus plan up. Rank Math has a Local SEO module, and its help page labels some settings as PRO, such as Multiple Locations, opening-hours labels, and map style (Rank Math help center, accessed 2026-10-20).

For how to do local SEO itself, see our complete local SEO guide.

If you want AI agents to change technical settings like canonical and noindex directly, among the official pages we read, the one with full official documentation is Yoast SEO Abilities. The details are in our complete explainer on Yoast SEO Abilities.

If what you care about is visibility in AI search, the plugin is only one piece. For how to write llms.txt, see our llms.txt setup guide; for whether AI crawlers can read your site, see our AI search crawler settings guide.

Showing three scenarios for choosing a plugin based on the type of website Caption: A single site (house), multiple sites (a cluster of buildings), and a local business (map pin): each scenario compares different terms.

What to Watch When Switching WordPress SEO Plugins: A Settings Migration Checklist

The first rule of switching plugins: keep only one SEO plugin at a time. AIOSEO's homepage FAQ states: "Running two SEO plugins at once usually causes duplicate meta tags, schema, and sitemap conflicts, and can hurt rather than help your rankings. Stick to one." (AIOSEO homepage, accessed 2026-10-20)

Yoast's sitemap help page has a similar requirement: if your sitemap is at example.com/sitemap.xml, it wasn't generated by Yoast. In that case, first disable other sitemap plugins and use FTP to delete physical sitemap files, then enable Yoast's sitemap.

This leads to an inference: after switching plugins, your sitemap URL may change. After the switch, confirm the new sitemap URL and resubmit it to search engines. This is our inference from the official documentation; go by the new plugin's documentation for the actual URL.

Below is the checklist we recommend. It's not the official procedure of any of the plugins:

Stage What to do Why
Before switching Export or note each page's SEO title, description, canonical, noindex setting, and the redirect list After the switch, settings stored by the old plugin may no longer be readable
Before switching Try it once on a staging site first Mistakes cost the most on the live site; Yoast Premium officially allows use on a staging site
During the switch Deactivate and remove the old SEO plugin, keeping only the new one Avoid duplicate meta tags, Schema, and sitemap conflicts
After switching Spot-check the source code of a few pages to confirm only one set of meta tags and Schema remains Duplicate output isn't always visible; you have to check the source code
After switching Submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console The sitemap URL may have changed
A few weeks after Watch for anomalies in indexing and impressions Settings missed in the move usually take a while to show up

For whether each plugin offers a tool to import settings from another plugin, and which fields it imports, see each plugin's official documentation.

The steps for submitting a sitemap are in our Google Search Console tutorial, and which URLs a sitemap should include is in our sitemap SEO guide. For technical checks after the switch, use our technical SEO checklist.

Showing that switching plugins means backing up first, then replacing, and finally checking Caption: Three steps to switching plugins: back up the old settings (folder), replace (puzzle piece), then check the pages (magnifying glass).

FAQ

Can I install two WordPress SEO plugins at the same time?

We don't recommend it. AIOSEO's official FAQ states that running two SEO plugins at once usually causes duplicate meta tags, Schema, and sitemap conflicts, and may hurt your rankings instead, so keep just one. Yoast's sitemap help page also says that when a sitemap isn't generated by Yoast, you should disable other sitemap plugins before enabling Yoast's sitemap. When switching plugins, deactivate the old one before activating the new one.

Is the free version of a WordPress SEO plugin enough?

For a single blog or brand website, starting with the free version is usually enough, and all three have one. Look at paid plans when you need redirect management, multiple keyphrases, or Local SEO: Yoast puts these in Premium, and AIOSEO's Local SEO starts from the Plus plan. This is our recommendation; go by your site's actual needs.

Do paid SEO plugins cost more in the second year?

As shown on the official sites on 2026-10-20: AIOSEO's first year is an introductory price and renewal is at full price, which its official FAQ says is roughly double the first-year price; Rank Math's renewal prices are higher than first-year prices on every plan, for example PRO renews at €8.99 per month. For Yoast Premium's renewal amount, go by the checkout page on the official site. When comparing prices, remember to look at the price from the second year on.

Which WordPress SEO plugins support llms.txt?

According to the official pages on 2026-10-20, Yoast SEO's beginner's guide gives the llms.txt settings location as Settings > AI Features, and AIOSEO's homepage feature list includes an LLMs.txt Generator. With Rank Math, you enable the LLMS Txt module in the Dashboard, then edit the content in General Settings (Rank Math help center, accessed 2026-10-20). For how to write llms.txt, see our setup guide.

Will installing an SEO plugin make me rank?

No. Yoast's official beginner's guide states that getting all-green traffic lights "in no way guarantees that it will rank"; AIOSEO's homepage FAQ also says "SEO is a long game", with most sites taking weeks to months to see meaningful change. A plugin is a tool. Content and site structure are the foundation of rankings.

You've Chosen a WordPress SEO Plugin. What's Next?

Choosing and installing a plugin is only the starting point. AIOSEO's homepage FAQ says that no matter which plugin you use, most sites take weeks to months to see meaningful change (AIOSEO homepage, accessed 2026-10-20).

Once the plugin is installed, you can work in this order:

  1. Finish the setup wizard: all three official sites mention a setup wizard, so get the basics set up first
  2. Turn on the sitemap and submit it: submit it to Google Search Console
  3. Confirm only one SEO plugin is outputting meta tags and Schema
  4. Put your effort back into content: a plugin's analysis is a checklist; answering readers' real questions is what decides rankings

Prices change, and features keep updating. The prices and plans in this article follow the official pages as of 2026-10-20, so check the official sites again before you buy.
